Rockhopper and Anthropic announce a partnership
Rockhopper and Anthropic today announced a partnership that connects Rockhopper’s version control, review, and audit-trail platform for Excel directly into Claude. This gives finance teams a single, natural-language way to track, review, and understand every spreadsheet in their close and forecast process, without leaving the flow of work.
The partnership launches with Rockhopper for Claude, a connector that gives Claude direct, governed access to a company’s enrolled Excel workbooks. Their version history, comment threads, review and approval status, and cell-level change history, so finance teams can ask Claude what changed, who approved it, and what’s still outstanding, instead of clicking through emails or driving through file drives.
Why this matters for finance and accounting teams
Spreadsheets remain the operating system of the close and forecast process and also the hardest thing to get visibility into. A single close cycle can span dozens of workbooks, each with its own version history, open comments, and pending sign-offs scattered across email, chat, and shared drives. Rockhopper brings structure to that process: versioning, reviews, and audit trails built for Excel. Now Claude brings reasoning and natural language on top of it, so a controller or analyst can get answers instantly rather than reconstructing them by hand.
With Rockhopper connected in Claude, finance and accounting teams can:
- See file status across the entire close or forecast in one place. Instead of opening each workbook to check where it stands, Claude can pull a live view across every enrolled file, which are still open, which are in review, and which are finalized, so nothing falls through the cracks at close.
- View and respond to comments and reviews, and check approval status, without leaving Claude. Claude can surface open comment threads and pending review requests across the file set, draft replies, and tell you exactly who still needs to sign off - turning review status from something you hunt for into something you’re simply told.
- Get a natural-language summary of what changed in a spreadsheet. Rather than diffing tabs cell by cell, ask Claude what changed in the forecast model since the last version, or who touched a specific cell and when, and get a plain-English answer grounded in the workbook’s actual change history.
- Jump straight into any file from the connector. Claude gives you a single, searchable view across every enrolled workbook, with a direct path into the file itself in Excel, so once you’ve found what you need, getting to the source is one step away.
How it works
An admin connects Rockhopper in Claude once, linking the team’s Microsoft 365 environment so Rockhopper can see enrolled workbooks across OneDrive and SharePoint. From there, every teammate with access can ask Claude about the state of their files directly. There is no separate login, no re-enrolling files per user. Rockhopper continues to be the system of record for versions, changes logged, comments, and approvals; Claude acts as the reasoning layer on top, always working from the same governed, auditable history rather than a shadow copy of the data.
