Why You Need an Independent AI Audit for Spreadsheets

For those of you that use AI inside of your spreadsheets. I wanted to see what was currently out there in the world to audit your work. I created this quick snap-shot of tools that currently provide “audit” capabilities or control inside of spreadsheets. I did not create this with AI, but I did use LLMs for researching.

In my blog post I talk about how having independent tools to review your AI analysis is critical. You don’t want the same tool creating the analysis to also audit and tell you that it’s correct. It is the same as your manager taking a look at your work before it’s used for decision making. But now it’s much harder to understand what an AI agent did inside of your spreadsheet and explain to your manager.

The future of AI agents inside of financial documents will need a governance layer that serves the individual user, risk managers, audit committees, and more.

Spreadsheet audit tools ranked by AI-agent fit: Rockhopper 5 of 5, xltrail 4, Excel Show Changes 3, MS 365 Version History 2, G Sheets Version History 2, Microsoft Purview 1.
